Ladies of the lake. Figureheads of Lake Geneva

Ladies of the lake. Figureheads of Lake Geneva

6 December 2002 to 2 March 2003

This exhibition unveils the stern ornaments and the figurehead in carved and gilded wood made by Emmanuel Bourgeau, a marine sculptor from Plogonnec, as well as the canoe built by Jean-Philippe Mayerat from Rolle. These elements will be installed on board La Suisse II in spring 2003. The exhibition also presents the few figureheads from Lake Geneva that have fortunately survived to the present day. It is a unique opportunity to imagine the richness of lake ornamentation and to discover, through a film and slide shows, this very particular art of marine sculpture. Mermaid, undine, Mater Helvetia... so many ladies of the lake who have made us dream and who today open the doors of the imagination linked to the lake.
