Aquaria. Fish invade the Lake Geneva Museum

During the month of October, fish will invade the Musée du Léman to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of its aquaria. In all the rooms, drawings and aquaria of various sizes and colourful decorations will be displayed. A celebration day on Sunday 4 October 2015 and workshops for children will be held throughout the month. A special exhibition will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the aquaria at the Musée du Léman. Schools of fish drawn by nearly 300 students between the ages of 6 and 14 will swim from room to room, and some twenty aquariums, mainly composed of fresh water and representative of a region of the world, will be scattered throughout the floors. Each aquarium will have a link with the theme of the permanent exhibition room in which it is installed. For example, the aquarium in the yachting room will house glass catfish, transparent fish whose skeleton evokes the hull of a ship. To open the museum to fish, the Musée du Léman team collaborated with the Association romande des clubs aquariophiles et terrariophiles (ARCAT). Some of the species presented are rare and have even disappeared from their natural environment. In this sense, public aquariums and aquarists not only make it possible to observe the species, but also to preserve them and contribute to their reintroduction.
